Vita Projects Photoshoot

These are a couple of pics taken from a photo shoot we did on Saturday in Pottsville up in a banana plantation. It was a really fun day, different to anything I've done before and the first time I have worked with a male model.. gonna be real honest with you... not too dissimilar to working with a female model!!! So here they are, more to come!!

You pay for what you get..

"The difference between style and fashion is quality"
- Giorgio Armani

Do you agree with this?

I absolutely do.

In my opinion it is far far better to invest in good quality clothes that are going to last, look good and feel good.
It's all very well and good to go and buy a pair of pants from Supre but after one wash when they have discoloured and fallen to pieces was it really worth it? Sure they may have been $15 but it's a completely wasted $15, you could have bought 3 coffees for that! I know what I would prefer!!

And at what point exactly do we compromise our standards for a bargain? I used to be guilty of this, I'd buy something that I didn't completely love, just because it was cheap... how dumb is that? I now have a wardrobe full of clothes that I like but don't love, therefore when I go to get dressed in the morning it's not as fun as it should be. You should LOVE your clothes, if you do then you will feel great and if you feel great you can achieve great things and if you achieve great things you will go far in life.

I'm not saying only spend your money on expensive things, this just isn't realistic for most of us, myself included. I'm saying pick wisely, some clothes you should spend an extra bit of money on to make sure they are going to last you the distance, good t-shirts, blazers and jeans need to be quality as do shoes.. DON'T BUY CHEAP SHOES!! I mean it.. how many of you whinge about how much your feet hurt because you bought shoes from rubi shoes and not only do your feet stink after wearing them you now have blisters and bunions.. look after your feet.. you need them! After working in shoe retail for over 2 years and seeing all the challenges ladies have with buying shoes because their feet are screwed up from the shoe choices they made when they were younger, is eye opening!

When your clothes are starting to look rammy it's time to let go.. white tee looking a bit grey? chuck it, seams coming apart? fix them or ditch them, shoes talking? CHUCK!! it's such a bad look and says to the world, that you don't care about your appearance.

Learn from your past purchases, if you bought something that fell apart soon after you bought it.. maybe don't buy from there again! Keep all your receipts and don't be afraid to take something back if it's faulty, law states that faulty products have to be refunded so don't be a push over!!

Also understand that keeping your clothes in good nick is your responsibility too, don't expect to wash whites with reds and everything be OK.. it won't!! Treat your clothes with respect, they won't look after themselves and need a bit of loving, hand-washing is a pain but definitely pays off in the long run.. put on some music and your washing up gloves and have a little boogie while you do it, make it fun, after all, having clothes that last you years and years is something worth dancing about!

Shops that I think are great for investment pieces but are also reasonably priced for their quality are:
CUE, Alannah Hill, Country Road, Saba, Witchery, FCUK and Sass and Bide. For shoes I can't go past Wittner and Steve Madden. Accessories for me are where it's a bit of a grey area.. I love buying from Diva when they have their sale on so I can stock up on pointless but fun jewellery for cheap, for quality pieces Mimco is always amazing and for silver lovers, the silver shop is great and the girls that work there are beautiful.

Of course there are more places than those that are safe to buy from but they are some of my favourite shops that are great at what they do and generally have great service which makes for an overall great experience, which adds that extra pop of style and quality into your shopping trip.

Fashion Queen

Ok so you're probably thinking "Why the hell is she writing about Queen Elizabeth I, this is supposed to be a fashion blog!" but if you can name someone more fashionable, trendy and idolized than Queen Elizabeth I, I will eat my Orange satin Armani stilettos!

Let's break this down so I can make my point and hopefully educate at the same time..

Ok so to start with we have her firey red, frizzy hair. Now, no offense to all of you beautiful red heads out there, I personally think it's a great hair colour and wish I had the guts to dye my hair red, but it's not exactly the most coveted hair colour around at the moment is it?
Well in the 16th Century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I EVERYONE and I mean everyone wanted red hair. Problemo.. In the 1500s they didn't have the luxury of nice n' easy hair dye, so they would use urine.. yes that's right.. URINE! to alter the colour of their hair. Now call me crazy but that's not exactly my idea of a fun night in but women would do this because they idolised Queen Lizzy so much!

Next case in point, when was the last time you went to the hairdressers and asked for them to "make it nice and frizzy" ? Well back then it was all the rage! why? because Liz's hair was good and frizzy... Something that we probably couldn't possibly understand, that being said, if Karl Largerfeld told us that this season is all about the frizz, would we do it? interesting...

Then; the make up. I'm probably not the best to comment on this one because I think that pale skin is beautiful and scour my skin daily with a heavy duty exfoliant on exfoliating gloves to remain as pale as possible.. yes it can hurt, yes my skin goes bright red for a while but for me, it's worth it! anyway back to my point.. 'brown is beautiful' is the general rule for image and beauty is it not? Well Queen Liz's ghostly white skin had women running for their make up kits to match her. How did they do this? (you already know it's gonna be bad!!) A mixture of white lead and vinegar.. two substances that your face does not wanna meet on a daily basis! As you can imagine this really messed with their skin, caused acne and all sorts of problems, to treat this they would use rosewater and lemon juice, last time I checked a bit of clearasil would do the trick but I guess we are just very privileged!
Many women would even draw false veins on their skin to enhance the white!.. mmm attractive!!

Complete this look with some rosey cheeks, red lips and kohl rimmed eyes and you have the 'Ideal 16th century women' and all because these attributes came naturally to Queen Elizabeth I. That's not to say that she didn't enhance all of these features by using the same methods but she was definitely the biggest trend setter than I have ever been aware of. Yes I wanna look like a combination of Alexa Chung, Lily Allen and Kate Moss but if that meant putting PEE in my hair, you can forget it!

As for the clothes they were all much the same in those days, much the same being completely extravagant and way waaaay OTT! but I find it quite amazing the amount of work they put into their appearance, in a time where executions and torture was considered the norm you wouldn't really think that it would really matter to them that their hair was as frizzy as possible or neck ruff big enough!

Nowadays fashion is all about individualism and expressing yourself through what you wear, back then it was all about what QE I was wearing/doing/saying.. and you thought Sarah Jessica Parker (combined with the wonderful stylings of Patricia Field) was a trend setter!

I hope I have proved my point, after 3 consecutive days of writing about fashion history for assignments, this isn't really something I am in peak condition to write as I'm pretty much all fashion history'ed out but I have really neglected my beloved baby blog of late and the Elizabethan era really fascinates me so I wanted to share it!
