An evolution of style.

Whenever I see a picture of myself I cringe.. I hate having my picture taken. I can tell other people how to pose for pictures but when it comes to myself I am hopeless, I never look good, even if I know that on that particular occasion I was looking not too bad, pictures just aren’t my friend. So you can imagine my dismay the other day when I saw a picture of myself from a few years ago, not only do I think I looked hideous but I caught one glimpse of my outfit and just about died.. What was I thinking??!

It made me realise how much my style has changed not only from then but from when I was a baby, so I decided I would dedicate this blog to my style through the years, yep.. the good, the bad and the very very ugly!!

Age 4; I’ll be honest, didn’t have a lot of input into how I dressed at this age, but the one thing that I still remember as being my staple item was a little multicoloured coat that we still have hidden away in a cupboard somewhere, very stylish and funky. I do believe this was the beginning of my eternal love of fashion.. Thank you mum!

Age 10; Mum still acting as my very own personal stylist helped me put together this girly/grunge/summer look.. Floral print dungarees, tartan Dr. Martins and John Lennon sunnies with ‘just woke up and pulled my fingers through my hair’ hair.. An outfit that wouldn’t look out of place on Aggyness Deyn!

Age 12; It was around this age I had what you might call a lapse in fashion, ditching the 'look how effortlessly fab I am, yes I did just throw this together, aren’t I great’ look and replacing it with (don’t even know if I can bring myself to say it!) Flouro green Adidas trainers, those god awful Adidas track pants that had poppers down the side!.. Eugh, and that’s not even the worst of it.. Finish that off with a bright yellow, Manchester United fleece and my signature greasy hair and pimple ridden face. This was definately a low point for me!!

Age 14; I’m a goth, you can’t possibly understand me because I wear black clothes, pentangles and black lipstick. I’m such an individual, I practise witchcraft and never smile..
Moving swiftly on….!

Age15-16; I’m no longer a goth, I’m now a ‘mosher’ this basically means I wear a lot of REALLY baggy pants that are too long for me so they drag on the ground and get filthy, I then drag this filth all over my dads cream carpet and he goes mental at me.

Age 18; I don’t think too much about fashion these days as I have lost a lot of weight and clothes are generally looking pretty good on me. I don’t even remember what I used to wear at this time but I sure miss being that thin!!

Age 20; I have put the weight back on. I wear great clothes but in hindsight they don’t suit me at all and I have no money so I wear the same stuff all the time so not only do I look terrible, I always look the same!!

Now - 23; I don’t think I have a particular style, I dress how I feel, everyday brings a new look. I have a lot of colour in my wardrobe am big on red lips, pale skin, blazers, cocktail rings and skinny jeans. I love experimenting with clothes and try not to wear the same outfit twice if I can help it.

I believe that we are all going to make a fashion faux pas at least once in our lives; take Olivia Palermo; I've always maintained that she never puts a foot wrong when it comes to dressing herself BUT.. shock horror, the other day in GRAZIA I saw a picture of her wearing, what can only be described as a hideous outfit and it finally dawned on me.. even the best of us make mistakes and it’s OK, as long as you learn from it and in the past 23 years, I can definitely say that I have learnt a lot!!
